Elinor Aishah Holland
Elinor Aishah Holland is one of only four North Americans to receive the Icazet (license) in the rigorous Ottoman School of Thuluth and Nashk Arabic calligraphic scripts. Holland is the only artist among her contemporaries to work with equal discipline in Arabic and Latin scripts. Her clients include the Smithsonian Institute, US Department of State, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She has exhibited at King Fahd Qur’an Conference, Sharjah and Kuwait Biennials, New York Islamic Arts Kadim Sanatin.
Jena Argenta founded Brush & Reed after her travels to Turkey and China in 2016, and her travels around South America and Mexico in 2018. Jena is an international artist and author of two volumes on calligraphic practice. She has a bachelor’s degree in fine art and (post)colonial studies from Sarah Lawrence College and is working toward and ijazah in Arabic script calligraphy with Elinor Aishah Holland in NY, and Ahmet Bursali in Istanbul. Her work has been privately and commercially commissioned in NYC, Mexico, Morocco, and across the U.S. She has given workshops as well as group and solo exhibitions in New York, New Mexico, and Puerto Rico, and has been featured in digital publications in Australia.
